FPSB’s CFP® Certification Standards

Financial Planning Standards Board’s certification standards are designed to assure members of the public accessing the services of a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ professional that the financial planning professional has met appropriate competency, ethics and professional practice standards to provide comprehensive personal financial planning services to clients.

To administer the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER certification program, FPSB enters into licensing and affiliation agreements with nonprofit organisations that become FPSB Affiliates. By meeting and maintaining FPSB’s affiliation requirements and standards, FPSB Affiliates are authorised to administer the CFP certification program in a country, or geographical or economic region, on behalf of FPSB. FPSB Ireland is the appointed FPSB affiliate in the Republic of Ireland.

FPSB’s rigorous enforcement of its certification standards, through its network of FPSB Affiliates, and adherence to a public-interest mission have helped establish the CFP marks as the marks of excellence for professional financial planning worldwide.

To obtain CFP certification, individuals must meet rigorous initial certification requirements adapted to Irish marketplace needs by FPSB Ireland. To maintain their right to use the CFP marks, CFP professionals must complete ongoing renewal requirements.

CFP®, CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ and CFP are trademarks owned outside the United States by Financial Planning Standards Board Ltd.
Financial Planning Standards Board Ireland Limited is the marks licensing authority for the CFP Marks in the Republic of Ireland, through agreement with FPSB.
